INTERVIEW TO CARLOS VERGARA

STUDENTS: Well, here we are with the Engineer Carlos Vergara for an interview about the most important students of the San Gabriel High School.
Good afternoon, engineer
ENGINEER: Engineer!
STUDENTS: And so we begin. When did you graduate from high school and with what specialty?
ENGINEER: In 1983, as physicist-mathematician
STUDENTS: What was the reason for you to decide ... you or your parents ... to enter the San Gabriel High School?
STUDENTS: The main reason was my father, because he and my uncles were students of the San Gabriel since ... I think before the San Gabriel was called Gonzaga... I don’t remember; then I studied the primary in Spellman School and when I was on sixth grade my dad...there you cannot decide a lot...but my dad caught me and took me to San Gabriel High School, and I’d been always grateful for the favor he did me.
STUDENTS: Did you love the high school?
ENGINEER:  Absolutely, of course.
STUDENTS: And when you graduated; in the university, what career did you choose?
ENGINEER: I graduated from the San Gabriel and I directly went to Catholic University to study civil engineering.
STUDENTS: Why did you study engineering?
ENGINEER: Because of my father, due to my father was an engineer, I always liked it, I saw him as a role model and I always liked what he did, then I could not leave it.
STUDENTS: Did you have some kind of benefit by being Gabrielino, to get into college?
ENGINEER: No, although my father was a professor at Catholic University, I had no benefits because a Gabrielino needs neither favors nor anything because with the academic, spiritual and ethical formation, benefits are not necessary to get into any college you want.
STUDENTS: Thus
- Do you remember any story that happened, that have marked your life; as a student?
ENGINEER: The only stories that I can find are related with studies because we had to stay studying for hours because of the strong academic level of the high school. Anyway, the story is basically sharing with friends, the formation that we had with them, the values ​​inculcated by the high school and obviously the most important thing, you know, is our Mother of Sorrows.
STUDENTS: Just about that the next question: What did it mean for you to be guided by the Mother of Sorrows at school?
ENGINEER: Is, like all Gabrielino, I think the most important. Our love for the Virgin, our Mother of Sorrows is immense and that, I think each real Gabrielino, takes the Mother of Sorrows in his heart and the stamp on the wallet never lacks, it never lacks.
STUDENTS:  And now, consider you that Lolita is still part of your life?

ENGINEER: Totally, it's in my office, in the main part of my office, I have the Mother of Sorrows picture blessed by Father Jose Rivas. I asked him some time to come and bless the image of the Mother of Sorrows I have here, as in my home, even though my children who are not in the San Gabriel High School, the three know how to pray the sentence to the Mother of Sorrows, her anthem, since ... I remember from four years old or less, the age that one can teach something to the children, they started learning the Anthem and the Prayer to Our Mother of Sorrows.

STUDENTS: Now, do you think that your immense success has been marked by the imprint left by the San Gabriel in you?
ENGINEER: Absolutely, the formation of the High School is so solid in every way, as I’ve just said, to go to college: no problem. Any Gabrielino, at least in my time, did not have or do not have any problem in joining the university, and these bases, which means talking about the study, we were served entirely in the race. Then the formation of San Gabriel has always been spectacular and I understand that if it’s not better, it keeps the level.
